Fatal Newberry Springs mauling death of Tracy Azpeitia.

A seventeen-year-old individual, locally known only by the name Tracy, sustained severe injuries after being attacked by multiple dogs in Newberry Springs, California, on July 17th. This incident, reported by ABC 7 Los Angeles, left the teenager requiring extensive medical treatment, including over five hundred stitches.

According to a GoFundMe page, the attack occurred around 7:00 a.m. local time on July 17th. The teenager was jogging near her family’s residence when she was ambushed by a pack of dogs in Newberry Springs. ABC 7 Los Angeles reported she was on a dirt road, heading towards a nearby workout facility close to the community center.

A neighbor who heard the teen’s distress calls promptly contacted emergency services. Following the assault, which left her with numerous lacerations and bites across her body, she was transported to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. There, medical staff provided treatment, including the more than five hundred stitches needed to address her severe wounds.

Speaking to ABC 7 Los Angeles, Tracy’s mother, Maria Azpeitia, expressed shock and disbelief. She recalled, “I didn’t know who she was. She was so covered in dirt, it was hard to recognize my daughter.”

Further investigation revealed that sixteen dogs were taken into custody from a property near the incident location. Detectives confirmed the animals were not confined or restrained at the time of the attack, as reported by ABC 7 Los Angeles.

Photographic evidence obtained by the news outlet depicted Tracy in the hospital, showing the extent of the injuries. Images captured her with bite marks and cuts covering her body, and she was seen lying in bed with bandages on her legs, also fitted with a leg cast.

Reflecting on the severity of the attack, Tracy’s stepfather, Carlos Ramirex, stated, “It was not just one or two dogs; it was a large group. They bit her everywhere, seemingly without restraint.”

Recovery has been challenging for Tracy, who now faces long-term consequences. ABC 7 Los Angeles reported that she is unable to walk independently following the incident. Despite being discharged from the hospital, she must continue with rehabilitation and numerous doctor’s appointments.

The ordeal has significantly impacted her future plans. As noted on a GoFundMe page created for her support, Tracy was preparing to begin her senior year of high school. Now, her focus is on recovery, and she experiences sleep disturbances and recurring nightmares due to the trauma.

The crowdfunding campaign, which has already collected over $8,000 out of a $12,000 goal, aims to assist with the ongoing medical expenses and recovery process for Tracy.
