Fatal Vancouver shooting death of Matthew Haynes

Law enforcement officials disclosed on Wednesday the identity of the individual involved in a recent collision in Vancouver, identifying him as Matthew Haynes. Haynes, a 25-year-old from the city, was implicated in an incident on August 6th where he allegedly disregarded a traffic signal, leading to a multi-car accident that left ten people injured, and subsequently ended his life with a self-inflicted bullet wound to the head, as confirmed by the Clark County medical examiner.

According to statements from Vancouver authorities, the accident transpired in the afternoon near Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard and 160th Avenue. Haynes, driving a pickup truck, was accused of proceeding through a red light, which caused a series of collisions with several vehicles.

The collision resulted in injuries to at least ten individuals, with two of them suffering critical injuries. Police indicated that the force from the impact ejected one person from their car.

Officials have not made public the names of those harmed or provided any details regarding their health status.

Haynes allegedly deserted the accident scene and sprinted on foot to his apartment, located in the 17700 block of Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard, nearby the crash.

Upon learning that Haynes possessed a weapon, police summoned a specialized tactical team. Despite officers’ calls urging him to surrender, there was no response from Haynes.

Using a drone, SWAT members examined the apartment and found Haynes unconscious on the floor. When they entered the residence, they discovered that Haynes had died from a gunshot wound to the head, as reported by both police and the medical examiner’s office.
