Fatal Greenville shooting death of Laporsha Jasma Farr

The Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office announced an investigation into a fatal shooting involving several individuals in the Upstate region.

Deputies responded to a shooting incident on Durham Place in Lake Wateree around 10 a.m. on the 12th of August.

According to reports from law enforcement, three men were engaged in a dispute at the property when one of them retrieved a handgun and shot two women. One of the victims suffered a neck wound while the other sustained an injury to her hip.

Laporsha Jasma Farr, who was 37 years old, passed away at the location. Deputies mentioned that August 14th would have marked Farr’s 38th birthday.

The second person shot was transported to the hospital and officials stated her condition was stable.

Following the shooting, the three men involved fled the scene.

Sheriff’s deputies identified the suspect as Jerry L. Jones, who is 41 years old and resides in Greenville. According to the report, Jones was the one who fired the gun.

Benny Grady and William Mack were apprehended without issues. They face charges of being accessory after the fact.

On Thursday, authorities reported locating Jones at a house on Crosby Circle in Greenville County. A SWAT team was dispatched to the scene. After a three-hour standoff, Jones was arrested while he was in the attic of that home.

Jones now faces charges including murder, attempted murder, and possessing a weapon during a violent crime.

Fairfield County Sheriff Will Montgomery expressed, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of this case and I am grateful for a swift resolution to this devastating crime.”

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, along with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Greenville Police Department, and the Greer Police Department provided assistance with the investigation.
