The Fresno County Coroner has officially identified the individual who was tragically killed on Tuesday morning when he was hit by a large truck in Fresno. The deceased is 36-year-old Richard Gomez.
According to law enforcement, officers were dispatched to the scene at 7 a.m. to Blythe and Gates avenues, located close to the Winco store. Upon arrival, they discovered Gomez, who was operating a motorized scooter at the time of the accident, lying injured after being struck by the semi-truck.
A member of the public who witnessed the incident followed the truck and subsequently contacted authorities. Once the police arrived, they managed to stop the commercial vehicle in the vicinity of Ashlan Avenue and Golden State Boulevard. The driver of the semi-truck was described as cooperative during the initial investigation.
The Fresno Police Department’s specialized Collision Reconstruction Unit has begun examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision to determine its cause.
Following the tragic event, Fresno Police authorities placed a temporary closure on Gates Avenue, extending towards Blythe Avenue, due to the pedestrian fatality that occurred on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
