Fatal Naperville death of Olasinmibo “Sinmi'” Abosede

Naperville authorities reported the discovery of a body. The remains were identified as matching Olasinmibo “Sinmi'” Abosede, a mother who had been reported missing for over two weeks. The tragic conclusion to the extensive search, led by authorities, took place on Thursday within the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve. DuPage County Coroner’s officials are still performing official identification procedures following the recovery of the remains.

A significant police operation was observed in the forest preserve area on Thursday. News helicopters provided aerial coverage as law enforcement secured a specific section of the location. The body was located in an area characterized by tall grass, situated close to a trail at the southwest corner of the preserve.

Investigators noted that the discovered body was dressed in attire consistent with what Abosede was last observed wearing. A formal statement attributed to officials indicated, “While our preliminary assessment aligns with Sinmi… Abosede, the definitive identification rests with the DuPage County Coroner’s findings. Our hearts ache for the Abosede family during this profoundly difficult period.”

The heartbreaking event unfolded nearly two weeks after the 46-year-old mother of four disappeared while walking near her residence in Naperville. Tragically, she left behind her phone and other personal items. Her family issued an urgent plea for assistance the previous Friday.

Gbenga Abosede, the husband, expressed profound sorrow during a Friday statement. He described his wife as a cornerstone of their family, highlighting her strong faith and dedication to their children. “She’s a gem of a woman,” he shared.

Prior to the recent discovery, search teams comprising law enforcement, volunteers, and canines conducted thorough examinations of Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve. Despite extensive efforts, including multiple canine track investigations, drone surveillance, and bulletin dissemination across various jurisdictions, Abosede’s whereabouts remained unknown during those searches.

The body was located in the same geographical area that had been the focus of the previous search operations. At this stage, investigators have not indicated any suspicion of criminal activity.

Abosede had embarked on her disappearance journey while walking near her home in Naperville. No cause of death has been officially determined by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday to assist with the identification and determination of the cause of death.
