Fatal Lingle Car Crash Death of Gerald Kruizinga
Wyoming authorities have confirmed the death of Gerald Kruizinga, an 80-year-old man, whose passing resulted from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle accident located outside Lingle, Wyoming on July 24th. The Wyoming Highway Patrol’s most recent report officially identified the deceased as Gerald Kruizinga.
According to the patrol’s findings, approximately 9:26 a.m. on July 24th, Kruizinga was driving his 2002 Mercury Sable sedan eastbound on U.S. Highway 26 towards Lingle. About five miles east of town, he initiated a left turn onto County Road 23. Simultaneously, the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck behind the sedan attempted to overtake by moving into the opposing lane. The truck subsequently collided with the Mercury as it was turning left.
The impact struck the rear left side of the sedan, causing the vehicle to spin counterclockwise. Following the collision, the Mercury reportedly slid backwards and crashed into the nearby embankment. The involved truck then drove off the road, entering a ditch and rolling onto its side.
First responders immediately transported Kruizinga via helicopter to HCA HealthONE Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado. Gerald Kruizinga ultimately succumbed to his injuries there on August 9th.
The driver of the Ford F-150 pickup truck was also involved in the collision and suffered injuries. He was transported to Torrington Community Hospital for treatment and was later released.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol has cited driver inattention as a contributing factor to the accident. The agency further noted that Gerald Kruizinga was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and this lack of restraint is believed to have significantly worsened the extent of his injuries.
The operator of the Ford F-150 has received a citation for unsafe passing maneuvers. However, the Wyoming Highway Patrol has stated that their investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed in the future.
