Prosecutors in St. Louis announced charges against a young man on Friday, August 16, 2025, for his alleged role in a deadly shooting that occurred six months earlier. The 21-year-old, identified as Malachi Ezell, now faces serious accusations including murder and assault stemming from an incident in June 2022.
The fatal event transpired around 6 p.m. on June 21, 2022, at a gas station known as Crown Mart, situated in the 900 block of North Kingshighway. Ezell and an associate allegedly intercepted the victims while they were inside their vehicle. Surveillance evidence confirms that firearms were discharged during the confrontation, leading to the death of Brandon Murphy, a 28-year-old.
Brandon Murphy was pronounced deceased, while a companion, who was 29 at the time, sustained injuries but survived. Despite extensive inquiries, this second individual’s identity has not been released to the public. Additionally, court documents indicate that Murphy himself acknowledged his participation in the shooting, as revealed through ongoing investigations.
