Kylee Monteiro Dead Following Alleged Stabbing in Rehoboth
Fatal stabbing in Rehoboth leaves 18-year-old pregnant woman dead
Officials in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, have arrested Kylee Monteiro’s ex-boyfriend, Gregory Groom, charging him with her murder. Groom allegedly confessed to the stabbing death, provided details about the crime scene, and directed authorities to where her body was located.
Kylee Monteiro, an 18-year-old expecting her first child, had been missing for several days. Police reported she had last been seen near her home in Rehoboth on August 7th. Her family confirmed her pregnancy and reported her disappearance.
The arrest occurred after Groom contacted police voluntarily. He reported his former partner was missing and described an argument the day before she vanished. However, investigators soon obtained information from Monteiro’s sister contradicting Groom’s initial account.
Kylee Monteiro’s sister identified her as being 11 weeks pregnant and revealed they were involved in a tumultuous relationship marked by domestic issues and physical confrontations. According to her sister, Monteiro had recently been staying at a shelter for homeless pregnant women in Pembroke, Massachusetts.
Groom’s statements to police about the missing person were initially vague, but as investigators pressed for more information, his demeanor allegedly changed. He became evasive about her activities before police secured a search warrant for his property.
During the investigation, Groom allegedly admitted to being involved in a physical altercation with Monteiro. He purportedly described the confrontation, claiming she fell backward during an argument, though the details contradicted statements from her sister and family.
When questioned further about the incident, Groom allegedly became increasingly agitated. He reportedly informed investigators he was prepared to search the property and possibly dig if necessary to locate the missing person.
Groom eventually produced a crude map of his property, allegedly showing the location where the confrontation took place and where he claimed Monteiro’s body was hidden. He admitted to stabbing Monteiro twice in the neck and once in the chest with a knife.
Investigators reported finding a substantial accumulation of foliage and fallen trees near a 25-acre property in Rehoboth. Approximately five feet below this area, authorities discovered a body matching the description of Kylee Monteiro.
The medical examiner has begun the identification process with Monteiro’s body. Prosecutors announced Groom faces multiple charges alongside murder, including assault and battery related to the pregnant victim and witness intimidation.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn addressed reporters after the arraignment, noting it was too early to determine Groom’s motive. He assured the family they would be kept informed about the ongoing investigation.
Groom is currently being held without bail, with a probable cause hearing scheduled for September 10th.
