This was a fatal stabbing incident in Taigum involving Carra Luke.
Emergency services were dispatched to an address on Osprey Pl in Taigum shortly after 12:30 AM on Saturday. A family member, upon discovering Carra Luke unresponsive in her bedroom, contacted the police. Paramedics attended the scene but were unable to revive her, resulting in her death being declared at the location.
According to Queensland Ambulance, they responded to a stabbing incident. Police located a 52-year-old man at an address on Hackman St in McDowall as part of their initial investigation. This man is assisting the police inquiries.
Assistant Commissioner Rhys Wildman mentioned that the man was arrested to gather evidence. No charges have been laid against him at this time. Wildman described the scene as “traumatic” for those involved in emergency response, including police and ambulance personnel. He stated that despite their training, such violent incidents remain highly confronting and challenging for first responders, and support services are being provided to them.
Carra Luke was employed as a nurse for more than two decades. She previously worked at a doctor’s surgery in Wavell Heights. Her professional description stated she was a dedicated nurse passionate about patient care, particularly for children and families, and focused on providing supportive, patient-centred care throughout people’s lives.
Community members reported that Carra Luke was widely regarded as a kind and caring individual. Police have established crime scenes at Taigum and McDowall. They are asking anyone who might have seen anything unusual near Osprey Pl during the night or has any relevant CCTV footage to contact them.
