A residential structure experienced a blaze on Goodwin Avenue within Roanoke County. The Roanoke County Fire and Rescue service identified the deceased individual as Zachary D. Little, a 47-year-old local resident.
Further examination conducted by authorities has unfortunately failed to establish the precise origin of the fire. An update subsequently confirmed that one individual lost their life due to the fire on that street.
Investigative teams have concluded that this fire incident did not appear to be the result of deliberate action. The assessed monetary damage related to this incident is estimated at $200,000.
Emergency responders reported that during the rescue operations, one firefighter sustained an injury. Fortunately, this firefighter was medically treated and has since completed their hospital stay.
Initial reports indicated that a house fire began in Salem territory on Saturday evening. Responding units included personnel from Roanoke Fire & Rescue, Fort Lewis, and Mason’s Cove, who were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. to the blaze located in the 1300 block of Goodwin Avenue.
Officials observed visible flames emanating from the building during the early stages of the emergency. As firefighters worked to manage the fire, safety concerns arose due to the structural integrity of the roof declining, necessitating their evacuation from the building.
Fire suppression efforts lasted approximately sixty minutes before the blaze was successfully contained. At the outset of the incident, official reports did not yet confirm whether any civilians suffered injuries or were forced to leave their home due to the fire.
The Roanoke County Fire Marshal’s Office has initiated a formal investigation to determine the underlying causes and contributing factors related to this fire incident.
