Fatal Bronx shooting death of Jaceil Banks
A single person died and several others were hurt following a gun incident at Haffen Park in the Bronx, reported Saturday.
The New York City Police stated the event unfolded during a community basketball activity for the start of the school year within the park, specifically in the Baychester area of the borough.
According to the NYPD, four individuals were detained by law enforcement at the site, and police recovered several firearms. Charges have not been formally filed yet.
Around 7:30 p.m., police received a report about gunshots and sent officers to Burke and Wickham avenues, sources said. Upon arrival, they discovered one man with a chest wound from a gunshot and a teenage girl with a head injury from a gunshot. Both were transported to a nearby hospital. The man, identified as 32-year-old Jaceil Banks, passed away. Police indicated that 17-year-old Anthonaya Campbell, from Hartford, Connecticut, was in serious condition.

Police authorities reported that additional individuals involved in the incident arrived at local medical institutions independently. Among them was a 31-year-old man with a back wound, a 29-year-old woman with a back injury, and a 42-year-old man with a minor arm wound. All of these additional victims were reported to be in stable health.
Local residents confirmed hearing several gunshots being fired.
