The Rochester Police Department is looking into a Saturday afternoon shooting on Smith Street. According to authorities, they were dispatched to the 300 block of Smith Street around 4:32 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting victim. When officers arrived, they found Gilberto Morales-Cruz, who was 68 years old and from Rochester. He had apparently been shot multiple times.

Officials declared Mr. Morales-Cruz dead at the scene. The Major Crimes Unit has started a homicide investigation regarding this incident. The specific details surrounding the shooting have not been released yet.

Emergency crews at the scene indicated that multiple RPD vehicles were present, including a command vehicle and a technical support unit. For now, Smith Street is closed to traffic at the Verona Street intersection. Additionally, officers have cordoned off the surrounding area.
