Fatal Champaign shooting death of RL Selvin

Patrol officers from the Champaign Police Department were dispatched to an address on West Springfield Avenue early one morning following an alarm about gunshots. The incident, which took place in the 2500 block of that street, occurred shortly after 3:00 in the early hours of August 24th. When the officers arrived at the scene, they encountered a 35-year-old man who was found in a state of unconsciousness and not breathing. He was immediately identified by the local Coroner as RL Selvin.

Emergency medical services took the individual to the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he was treated. However, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away approximately at 3:30 in the morning on August 24th. Following this, investigators from the police force located a vehicle used by suspects in the 2000 block of Moreland Boulevard. This led to the arrest of two individuals: Tyson Moore, who is 32 years old, and Deandre Newbill, who is 37 years old.

According to reports from law enforcement, the victim was positioned in a parking area when the suspects, Moore and Newbill, fired shots at him. During the ongoing probe, authorities recovered two firearms as evidence.
