Murfreesboro law enforcement authorities announced on August 24th that they had filed charges against a driver concerning the death of a pedestrian who was hit on Old Fort Parkway on August 5th. According to the statement from the Murfreesboro Police Department, the driver of the pickup truck involved in the fatal pedestrian incident was an 18-year-old named Samuel Helton, who resides in Murfreesboro.
Following the death of 23-year-old Kali Mills from Murfreesboro, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Samuel Helton. Police spokesman Larry Flowers informed reporters that Helton was apprehended on August 23rd and formally accused of vehicular homicide stemming from his reckless driving. Helton was transported to the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center for processing, where he was released on a bond of $50,000.
Details surrounding the fatal accident involving a pickup truck and pedestrian at the intersection of Old Fort Parkway and New Salem Highway/Golf Lane were reported by emergency medical services. Paramedics conveyed both the truck driver and the pedestrian to a hospital. Medical professionals at the facility later confirmed the death of Kali Mills.
The preliminary investigation conducted by police indicates that the pedestrian was struck while utilizing a designated and activated crosswalk on Old Fort Parkway. The pickup truck was reportedly making a left-hand turn from Golf Lane at the time of the incident.
Samuel Helton is currently scheduled to appear before a judge for an arraignment.
