Fatal Alliance shooting death of Douglas Stinnette

Law enforcement confirmed the identities of the two individuals killed during a homicide-suicide incident in western Nebraska on Thursday. According to the Alliance Police Department, 73-year-old Douglas Stinnette fatally shot his 65-year-old wife, Melody Stinnette, before turning the gun on himself and sustaining a fatal head wound.

Responders were dispatched following a 911 report received around 11:10 a.m. concerning gunfire near Big Horn Avenue and West Seventh Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officers from the Alliance Police Department and the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office discovered Melody Stinnette deceased outside the residence, while Douglas Stinnette was rushed to a medical facility with severe injuries. He was subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Scottsbluff, where his condition deteriorated and he passed away.

An autopsy for Douglas Stinnette has been authorized by authorities. While the events leading to the tragedy are still under review, the case is now considered resolved due to the death of the perpetrator.
