Law enforcement officials have officially identified the individual who tragically lost their life in a serious vehicular accident that occurred on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on Monday. The individual in question is Michael Aguilar, a 21-year-old man known to be from Queens.
According to an initial report compiled by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Division, the incident took place on the upper portion of the Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge around 10:55 p.m. on Monday. Aguilar was operating a Kawasaki Ninja 400 motorcycle at the time of the incident.
The official statement from the police indicates that Aguilar’s motorcycle collided with a barrier positioned along the right edge of the road. Eyewitnesses or sources involved in the investigation reported that Aguilar was subsequently thrown from his motorcycle. The narrative further states that Aguilar was wearing a helmet during the accident.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and discovered Aguilar in a state of unconsciousness and without responsiveness, with indications of physical harm. Medical personnel from EMS immediately transported him to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn. Despite the medical efforts, Aguilar was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital.
The ongoing police investigation has determined that the incident involved only the motorcycle, with no other vehicles or parties implicated. This tragic event resulted in the implementation of lane restrictions on the bridge spanning from Monday evening into Tuesday morning as authorities addressed the situation.
