Fatal Merced County homicide death of Gilberto Ramirez

Merced County authorities announced Tuesday the identification of a man killed under “suspicious” conditions just one week prior. The Merced County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as Gilberto Ramirez, a 55-year-old resident of Gustine.

Ramirez sustained fatal gunshot wounds in the early afternoon of August 20th. The precise location of the incident was within the 4600 block of Hunt Road, situated in a southern sector of Gustine.

Initially characterized as a suspicious death, the Sheriff’s Office subsequently reclassified the incident for a homicide investigation. This development led to the apprehension of 46-year-old Timothy Fontes. Charges of homicide have been formally filed against Fontes.
