Novi, Michigan (FOX 2) – The identities of the two individuals killed when their vehicles collided early Tuesday on I-96 near Beck Road have been confirmed by authorities.
The fatal collision occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday when a Kia sedan rear-ended a halted Acura sedan on the eastbound lanes of the highway. This impact ignited a fire, resulting in the deaths of both drivers. The highway remained closed for several hours due to the extensive investigation and cleanup efforts.
Novi police and Michigan State Police are leading the investigation into the incident. The initial vehicle experienced a tire failure, forcing its driver to stop in the left lane. The Acura driver was identified as 30-year-old Neena Wang, originally from California. The Kia driver, identified as 57-year-old Sylvette Campbell from Westland, was not listed among the passengers. No other individuals were injured in the crash.
Cleanup operations persisted until mid-morning Tuesday, delaying traffic for nearly six hours after the initial collision. According to Novi police, the extensive cleanup was necessary due to the significant debris and fuel involved.
