Fatal Harris County shooting death of Krystal Degeyter

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Krystal Degeyter, who was 40 years old, was discovered deceased on Sierra Blanca Drive, located near the intersection of Highway 6 and the West Park Tollway, on a Friday evening. A man is now facing accusations; however, they pertain to tampering with evidence, not her murder.

Court records indicate that shortly before 8 p.m. on that Friday, Degeyter arrived accompanied by her boyfriend, her brother, and her 10-year-old daughter. The purpose was for her boyfriend to sell a firearm to the owner of the washateria situated on Sierra Blanca Drive, Trung Doan, a 35-year-old individual.

Harris County Sheriff’s Office reports state that Degeyter arrived with her boyfriend, brother, and daughter for the gun sale to the washateria owner, Trung Doan. Eyewitness News reports indicate law enforcement arrived following a 911 call on the night of Degeyter’s death and confirmed the boyfriend and brother were cooperating with investigators.

Probable cause documents allege that Doan took the firearm into a second vehicle, described as a truck, where it discharged. The documents state the bullet caused Degeyter’s death by hitting her in the head. Reports from law enforcement also mention an altercation occurred prior to the discharge, but they are withholding further specifics.

Doan is accused of providing false information to law enforcement. He allegedly claimed his business lacked video surveillance, even though the premises featured cameras and signs notifying customers they were being monitored. Court filings state Doan concealed a digital video recorder (DVR), obscured a second vehicle (the truck), and gave false statements regarding a second buyer for the gun.

Court records show Doan admitted to investigators that he had misled them concerning the existence of the truck, the DVR, and the second buyer. He was apprehended and formally charged with two counts of tampering with evidence on Monday.
