Fatal Hartford car crash death of Nicholas Thompson

The Hartford Police Department has indicted the accused driver, Michael Grady, 18, a teenager from the city, amid legal actions stemming from a deadly vehicular incident that occurred on Main Street in April. Grady was apprehended by the dedicated team of the Greater Hartford Auto Theft Task Force at an unspecified time on Wednesday, as confirmed by Lieutenant Aaron Boisvert in an official statement. Facing a series of serious allegations including careless operation of a motor vehicle, abandonment of the scene resulting in a fatality, and lack of a valid driving permit, Grady’s financial release was established at a considerable sum of $150,000.

Following the incident report received at precisely 7:30 p.m. on April 7, officers promptly dispatched to the precise location at 2222 Main Street responded to an urgent call regarding a pedestrian cyclist who had allegedly been involved in a collision. Upon arrival, emergency medical units discovered the bicyclist lying motionless on the roadway, prompting immediate resuscitation attempts until professional medical aid arrived and conveyed the individual to a healthcare facility. Regrettably, despite the advanced medical care, the cyclist, later confirmed to be Nicholas Thompson, a 42-year-old resident of Hartford, did not survive.

Preliminary findings from the ongoing probe revealed that Thompson was moving southbound on Main Street when he was pushed into the path of another vehicle, according to the details shared by Boisvert. This initial contact triggered a series of evasive actions where the operator of the striking automobile subsequently collided with a parked automobile nearby, which unfortunately caused their own vehicle to become immobile. As a consequence, several individuals associated with this second vehicle managed to depart the accident site on foot. The specialized division of the police force focused on crime scenes took over the investigation, leading to the identification of Michael Grady as the principal driver involved. Subsequent efforts by investigators resulted in securing formal authorization to hold Grady in custody.
