State lawmakers’ security detail is examining the death of Saleh Ghasan Omar Humaid, a seventeen-year-old, in Jackson. Officials reported the fatal gunfire took place approximately at 9:25 p.m. on September 19 in the vicinity of Sunnyvale Drive and Sandalwood Place.

The Hinds County Interim Coroner, Jeramiah Howard, confirmed the identity of the deceased as Saleh Ghasan Omar Humaid. His oldest sibling, Abdul Humaid, expressed the view that his younger brother was targeted after he and his close friend departed soccer training on Westbrook Road. The family is actively seeking clarification and intends to pursue legal consequences against the individual responsible.

Saleh Ghasan Omar Humaid was enrolled at Germantown High School prior to his withdrawal earlier in the current academic year, according to Madison County Schools representatives. Rick Negron, serving as the district’s communications director, remarked that this tragedy deeply impacts the school community, affecting both students and personnel significantly. He noted that counselors and emotional support workers have been present on campus for the past week, providing assistance to those impacted.
