Napoleon Frayna Grande and Susan Julian Grande, a married couple from Daly City, succumbed to injuries after a catastrophic collision on Highway 65 in Bakersfield.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office has officially identified the two fatalities from the accident on Famoso Road, with both victims being in their late 60s and early 70s.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on the morning of September 20, 2025. At approximately 11:44 a.m., 76-year-old Napoleon Frayna Grande was operating a 2016 Honda Fit, heading eastbound on Famoso Road, when he neglected to comply with a stop sign. This led to a direct impact with a 2014 Freightliner truck driven by a 55-year-old man, who was moving southbound on Highway 65.

Following the collision, the Honda Fit skidded off the roadway and came to a stop on the east-side dirt shoulder. Simultaneously, the truck driver lost vehicle command, flipping over and tumbling down a nearby embankment. This resulted in the southbound lane being entirely blocked, while the northbound lane suffered partial obstruction.

Both Napoleon Frayna Grande and his 66-year-old wife, Susan Julian Grande, did not survive the crash and passed away at the crash site. The operator of the Freightliner was transported to Kern Medical Hospital for treatment. The California Highway Patrol confirmed that neither alcohol nor any drugs were involved in this tragic event.
