Miami, Oklahoma authorities have confirmed the identity of the man killed during a confrontation with local law enforcement over the weekend. The 37-year-old resident of Miami, Cody Ryan Mayfield, succumbed to his injuries after exchanging fire with police officers. The Miami Police Department initially transferred the investigation to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation due to the involvement of their officers in the incident. However, it has since been determined that federal law enforcement agencies are now taking over the case, as one of the responding officers held a federal position. The incident began on Sunday when Miami police reported that Mayfield was involved in a vehicle collision and had allegedly shot someone at the scene, prompting a pursuit. According to preliminary reports, Mayfield fled from the crash location and entered a residence located on E Street near BJ Tunnell Boulevard. Authorities attempted to de-escalate the situation and persuade Mayfield to surrender peacefully, but he instead retrieved a weapon and opened fire on the officers present.
