The authorities have confirmed the identity of the deceased person involved in Thursday’s fatal shooting incident in Richmond Hill. Officials have stated that the individual who passed away was identified as Issam Saad, aged 47, and he resided in Richmond Hill. The determination has been made that the cause of death resulted from injuries caused by gunfire. The ongoing investigation continues, and local law enforcement is seeking any information provided by the public to assist in their inquiry.
Earlier in the day, before the identity was made public, a news update reported that a man in his 40s was found deceased at the scene of a shooting that occurred in the Richmond Hill area on Thursday evening. According to the initial dispatch, responding officers arrived shortly before 7 p.m. at a location specified as the intersection of Parker Avenue and Poplar Drive within the Oak Ridges neighborhood. There, they encountered a man suffering from bullet wounds located in a roadway area. Despite the immediate efforts by emergency medical services personnel to provide aid on the scene, the individual was pronounced dead. York Regional Police indicated that further details regarding the circumstances were still under examination at that time.
Shortly following the first incident report, police received another dispatch concerning a vehicle fire. This occurred at a nearby location, reported at King Road and Dufferin Street. York Regional Police officials suggested a connection between this reported fire and the two individuals suspected of involvement in the earlier shooting incident. At this point, no specific descriptions of the suspects were available, and the process of identifying the deceased was anticipated to be completed later in the day.
During a press conference held yesterday, Constable James Dickson addressed the media present at the incident location. He characterized the shooting incident as being under investigation for being both a targeted event and an isolated incident. As part of their operational response, police established a command post situated at 160 Coons Road, in proximity to the relevant areas. They are actively requesting information from anyone who might have been an eyewitness to either the shooting or the fire incident, as well as from members of the community who might possess security footage or dashcam recordings that could be relevant to their investigation. The public is encouraged to contact York Regional Police directly or to submit their information anonymously through the Crime Stoppers tip line or website.
