The authorities in Richmond County have confirmed the identity of the person killed when a car accident happened in the evening on Mike Padgett Highway close to the border with Burke County. The man who died, identified as the 47-year-old David Stringfield from Augusta, was the only person inside the vehicle involved. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene at 7:59 p.m.

Police initially treated the occurrence as a serious traffic collision. This led to a full operational response from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, which worked alongside Burke County deputies. These groups helped manage traffic flow and kept the public safe at the crash site. At the start, all directions on Highway 56 were closed off. Drivers intending to use the northbound route were rerouted at River Road, which is located in Burke County. Plans for an emergency air ambulance were put into action, but these plans were later put on hold once it was confirmed that the fatality was the end result of the incident.
