Fatal Berkeley County, S.C. home collapse death of Sandra Tillman
Officials from the county’s medical examiner’s office have disclosed the identity of the individual who passed away following being pulled from a structure that had given way. Tillman, who was 65 years old and resided in New York, succumbed to her injuries and related complications at a regional burn care facility on Thursday evening, as confirmed by the coroner, Darnell Hartwell.
Emergency teams from Berkeley County were dispatched around 7:42 a.m. Thursday after receiving a call about a potential blast and the collapse of a residential building on Rufus Lane, situated in the Cordesville region. Two individuals were removed from the collapsed structure; however, one of them, Sandra Tillman, sadly passed away later at the hospital at 9:18 p.m. on the same day.
Investigators with the Berkeley County emergency services are examining the collapse of the dwelling, which may have been triggered by an explosion. Additional probes are being conducted by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the South Carolina Fire Marshal’s office, and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office to determine the root cause.
Numerous local agencies, including Berkeley County EMS, the county’s emergency division, and fire services from North Fire & Rescue, Moncks Corner City Fire & Rescue, North Berkeley Fire, Moncks Corner Fire, Goose Creek Fire, and Summerville Fire and Rescue, were involved in the rescue operations at the scene.
