Fatal Charleston County car crash death of Luke Madden

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office announced the identity of the individual killed in an early morning accident on the Don Holt Bridge on Saturday. Bobbi O’Neal, the Coroner, stated Madden died as a result of the injuries he received in the crash.

North Charleston Police officers were dispatched to the Don Holt Bridge around 3 a.m. The initial report involved a vehicle traveling against the flow of traffic in the westbound lanes of Interstate 526. Shortly after, reports of injuries from a collision were received. It is confirmed that the driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle at that time and did not survive the incident.

To manage the scene, all traffic lanes were shut down for several hours. Traffic experts expect full roads again by about 7 a.m.

Investigators with the North Charleston Police Department continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
