Fatal Hartselle train collision death of Franklin D. Turney

Hartselle police reported the death of a man on Wednesday, caused by injuries from a train collision. The Hartselle Police Department stated that the incident occurred when the individual collided with a train at a railroad crossing near downtown Hartselle.

The deceased man, identified by the local coroner, Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn, as Franklin D. Turney, was 91 years old. According to police, Turney was the only person in the vehicle involved in the accident. He was driving eastbound and met the train head-on, which was moving northbound, near College Street and Chestnut Street.

The force of the impact ejected the vehicle from the crossing. The accident caused the vehicle to be moved approximately 800 yards north due to the collision, which reportedly hindered the process of getting the vehicle back onto the track.

Emergency services transported Turney to a local medical facility, but the coroner confirmed that he ultimately did not survive his injuries.
