Fatal Saybrook fire death of Carol D. Purcell
Officials have officially identified the individual who passed away during a house fire in Saybrook on Friday. McLean County Coroner Kathy Yoder confirmed the identity of the deceased as Carol D. Purcell, a 72-year-old resident of the village.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to discover the structure engulfed in flames, located within the 300 block of West Oak Street. Upon entering the premises, deputies located the body of the woman who had tragically lost her life.
Preliminary findings from the autopsy suggest that Purcell’s death was likely due to carbon monoxide poisoning, which occurred as a result of smoke inhalation and exposure to soot.
Further toxicological examination is currently underway, according to a recent statement.
The State Fire Marshall is collaborating with the county coroner and local law enforcement to determine the cause and origin of the fire, which led to the unfortunate demise of the resident.
