Fatal Alabama drowning death of Shardee McGill

The Jackson Police Department announced on Monday they began an investigation after 33-year-old Shardee McGill and her 3-year-old daughter, Janae, went missing. The mother and child were last seen alive on Sunday. The interim chief, Tyree Jones, confirmed their disappearance.

Following reports of their vanishing, authorities confirmed on Thursday that McGill’s body was discovered in shallow water near Epes in Alabama. Sheriff Tyree Jones of Hinds County stated on Friday that Janae’s body was found in a nearby location to where her mother’s remains were located. The vehicle, a black Chevrolet Equinox, was also recovered in Alabama.

Chief Jones stated that McGill’s husband, Johnathan McGill, a 34-year-old, was questioned about the disappearance and the vehicle’s location before being released. He emphasized there is currently no suspect information, no confirmed cause of death, and no evidence leading to an arrest. The chief noted the investigation is ongoing and it is premature to release details.

The family resided in the northeast section of Jackson. Anyone with potential information about the case is urged to contact the Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234.
