Investigators have pinpointed the aviator responsible for the aircraft that met a tragic end at Kobelt Airport in the Shawangunk region, authorities reported.
Federal aviation sources confirmed that Gerald Cotter, an 80-year-old resident of Milford, New Jersey, was the individual operating the small-engine plane when the incident occurred on Saturday, September 27. His duties were being performed shortly after 2:25 p.m.
According to initial reports from law enforcement, the aircraft experienced a post-crash ignition, resulting in a surrounding vegetation fire. Cotter was the sole occupant, and his body was located at the scene.
The relevant regulatory body has been notified, and a probe into the incident is currently underway.
