Fatal Ocala hit-and-run death of Albert Mobbs

Authorities arrested a 32-year-old woman on Thursday, September 25, for allegedly driving a van that struck and killed an elderly pedestrian in a hit-and-run incident on State Road 200.

The fatal accident occurred shortly after 7:55 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, at the intersection of SR 200 and SW 60th Street in Ocala. At the time, the pedestrian—later identified as 76-year-old Albert Mobbs—was crossing westbound lanes while pushing a cart filled with groceries. The area was described as poorly lit in the Florida Highway Patrol report.

The van, traveling westbound on SR 200, was involved in the collision but continued driving after hitting Mobbs. The driver, identified as Somer Lynn Fox, was later apprehended by the FHP. Mobbs died at the scene from the injuries sustained.

Fox was booked into Marion County Jail on Thursday, September 25, and is being held on a $25,000 bond. She faces charges of failing to remain at the scene of a fatal crash. No court date has been scheduled yet.
