Fatal South Philadelphia shooting death of Hason Mason

Philadelphia police reported one fatality and one person in serious condition following a shooting incident in South Philadelphia on Thursday evening. According to authorities, over 20 shots were fired at the location.

The gunfire occurred around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Broad Street and Packer Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a 23-year-old man identified as Hason Mason. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the face and body and was transported to Jefferson Hospital. Medical examiners confirmed he later passed away.

A second individual, also in their early 23s, sought assistance at a nearby bar after being struck by gunfire twice in the torso. He was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and was listed in stable condition.

Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small stated that police located a vehicle associated with the incident. The four-door sedan showed damage from at least 15 bullet impacts, primarily affecting the driver’s side and rear windshield area. Investigators suspect one or both victims may have been inside the vehicle during the shooting. The suspect vehicle then collided with another car while trying to flee. The woman inside that other vehicle suffered no injuries.

Forensic officers recovered at least 21 spent shell casings from the scene. Law enforcement reports indicate the shooter(s) were last spotted departing the area in a silver or dark-colored sport utility vehicle. Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made. Citizens are encouraged to reach out to the police department with any information by calling 215-686-TIPS.
