The incident began in the evening of Thursday when an argument erupted between individuals inside the American Legion Post 273, located at 13th and Hydraulic streets. According to preliminary investigations, Mr. Grayson and Mr. Buckner were engaged in a disagreement at the bar. Following the initial confrontation, law enforcement reports state that Mr. Buckner exited the establishment, returned moments later with a weapon, and forcefully re-entered despite attempts by staff to prevent his re-entry.

During this second confrontation, shots were fired, resulting in injuries to both Mr. Grayson and a second individual, a 56-year-old man who reportedly attempted to separate the parties involved. Medical professionals responding to the scene found Mr. Grayson with multiple gunshot wounds, and despite hospital efforts, his life could not be saved. The 56-year-old victim sustained injuries from the gunfire and was transported to a medical facility where he remains in stable condition.

Speaking about the tragic incident, the local police chief expressed deep regret over the loss of life and emphasized the dangers of escalating conflicts. “Tragically, a life was lost due to an altercation that began among acquaintances,” the chief stated. “Violence frequently stems from poor decisions, particularly when weapons are brought into personal disputes. Such choices lead to devastating outcomes, impacting individuals and communities.”
Officials have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community. Those with information about the incident are encouraged to contact the Wichita Police Department investigators or Crime Stoppers to assist with the ongoing probe.
