Fatal Phoenix shooting death of William Christopher Baumgardner

Phoenix law enforcement arrested a 34-year-old man after it was reported that he fatally shot his stepfather during a heated disagreement at an apartment complex in the city on Saturday night. The suspect is believed to have been involved in a verbal altercation with the victim before the incident occurred, leading to the deadly outcome.

Authorities were summoned to the location on 37th Street and McDowell Road around 8:56 p.m. on November 1 due to an emergency call about gunfire. Upon their arrival, officers discovered William Christopher Baumgardner inside the premises with multiple bullet wounds. Emergency medical services transported him to a local medical facility, but he succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

Investigators revealed that the accused, identified as Bradley Alan Gibson, engaged in an argument with the victim, which escalated into violence. After firing the shot that led to Baumgardner’s death, Gibson fled the scene but eventually returned to surrender to the police. He allegedly arrived with items of evidence pertinent to the crime.

Gibson was formally processed for detention under charges including homicide. The ongoing probe continues as authorities gather additional information.
