Law enforcement reported a tragic incident on Friday night in Sumter County, resulting in a man’s death and charges filed against a woman. Responding to reports of gunfire on Charleston Avenue around 10:40 p.m., deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The individual responsible for the shooting was identified as 56-year-old Tammy Elvington. According to the investigation, Elvington claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse. She was subsequently charged with voluntary manslaughter and transported to the Sumter County jail, where she is currently being held without bond pending further legal proceedings.
