Fatal Lake Worth, Texas police shooting death of Jerry S. Gee – Obituary
Jerry S. Gee, 56, was fatally shot by Lake Worth police officers Friday evening after authorities said he pointed an alleged firearm at officers, officials reported. The incident occurred around 7:24 p.m. in the parking lot of a Walmart located in the 6300 block of Lake Worth Boulevard.
Police said Gee was first contacted during a traffic stop at about 6:56 p.m. in the same area, where officers learned he was wanted on charges of solicitation of prostitution. Before he could be arrested, Gee fled, leading officers on a slow-speed pursuit through the city. His vehicle became disabled behind the Walmart, and when he exited holding what appeared to be a firearm, he assumed a shooting stance. Four officers fired at Gee, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured.
The Lake Worth Police Department has requested that the Texas Rangers conduct an independent investigation. Findings will be submitted to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office and later reviewed by a grand jury.
