Authorities in Halifax County, Virginia, have confirmed the death of a man involved in a head-on collision on December 26. The victim was 28-year-old Melvyn Malik Crutchfield of Lynchburg.

Virginia State Police reported that Crutchfield crossed the center line on Cody Road before 1:30 p.m., colliding head-on with a Mercury Grand Marquis driven by 82-year-old Olin “Carson” Riddle Jr. Both drivers died at the scene, and Crutchfield was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Investigators stated there is no indication that alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision.
