Fatal Mesquite shooting death of Nadia Swanson – Obituary

The family of 30-year-old Nadia Swanson is mourning her loss after she was killed in a shooting that later led to a police-involved shooting the same day. Her mother, Shashawn Swanson, described Nadia as a strong woman who was not only a daughter, but also a friend, sister, and mother to five children.

According to authorities, Mesquite Police were called to a shooting around 10:15 a.m. last week in the 9000 block of Markville Drive. Nadia’s alleged killer, 32-year-old Gerald Frank Martin, fled the scene.

Police later attempted to stop Martin on LBJ Freeway near Town East Mall. During the encounter, he exited his vehicle armed, prompting officers to discharge their weapons. Nadia’s children are currently staying with their father and extended family, while the investigation into the events surrounding her death continues.
