An 11-year-old girl, Queener’Re Reed, has died after being shot near a West End playground in Cincinnati on New Year’s Day. Reed succumbed to her injuries at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital on Thursday, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. near Laurel Playground at the intersection of W. Liberty Street and John Street. District 1 officers were alerted after someone reported a shooting and found Reed suffering from a gunshot wound. She was immediately transported to the hospital, where she later passed away.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear, and police have not released information regarding any suspects. The Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case. Community members, including former mayoral candidate and local pastor Cory Bowman, expressed deep sorrow, noting that Reed had been playing in the park with her cousins when the shots were fired.
