Matthew J. Dacus dies in fatal Dorchester County, South Carolina dirt bike crash

Fatal Dorchester County dirt bike crash death of Matthew J. Dacus – Obituary

Matthew J. Dacus, a 34-year-old resident of Saint George, lost his life in a dirt bike collision that occurred on New Year’s Day in Dorchester County, according to officials with the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office.

Coroner Paul Brouthers stated that Dacus was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 7:55 p.m. on Thursday following the crash.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Hannah Davidson reported that the incident took place earlier in the evening, around 5:18 p.m., along Highway 78 near Motel Drive. Investigators said Dacus was riding a Honda dirt bike traveling eastbound when a 2016 Ford Explorer attempted to turn left from a private roadway to head west on Highway 78.

The two vehicles collided during the turn, resulting in critical injuries to the dirt bike rider. Dacus succumbed to those injuries at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
