Fatal San Pedro police shooting death of Lawrence Gonzales – Obituary
Lawrence Gonzales, 39, was shot and killed by police during a violent confrontation in San Pedro on Wednesday, December 31. Authorities have confirmed his identity following the incident.
At approximately 9:40 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment on West 37th Street. Upon arrival, they spoke with the victim, who reported that Gonzales was inside her apartment and in violation of a restraining order.
When officers tried to detain Gonzales, he refused to comply, physically resisting their efforts. The situation escalated when Gonzales attempted to disarm the officers, leading to an officer-involved shooting. He was taken to a nearby hospital by paramedics, where he was pronounced dead. Two officers sustained minor injuries during the confrontation and were treated at a local hospital.
The incident is under investigation by the LAPD and the California Department of Justice.
