Luis Carlo of Bethlehem was killed in a tragic roadway incident on New Year’s Day along the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Carbon County. The deadly crash occurred shortly after 3:25 a.m. on the northbound Northeast Extension near mile marker 76.2 in Franklin Township.

Pennsylvania State Police said several vehicles were pulled over on the shoulder at the time, as a disabled vehicle was being assisted by a tow truck. Carlo suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later confirmed his identity through official records.

The Jeep was driven by 27-year-old Luis Fargas-Carrion of Allentown, who has since been charged with reckless driving in connection with the crash. Police noted that multiple passengers inside the Jeep were injured and taken to nearby hospitals with injuries described as ranging from minor to serious.

The Pennsylvania State Police Pocono Station, working alongside the Carbon County Coroner’s Office and the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
