Fatal Lakeland, Florida car crash death of Mary Lockhart – Obituary
Mary Lockhart, an 81-year-old woman from Lakeland, died following a wrong-way collision Sunday night on West Pipkin Road, according to the Lakeland Police Department. The crash occurred around 7:26 p.m. on January 4, 2026, in the 4100 block of the roadway.
Police investigators said Lockhart was driving a white Honda SUV eastbound in the westbound inside lane when her vehicle struck a gray Honda Accord head-on. The Honda Accord was being driven westbound in the correct lane by 20-year-old Ethan Duncan of Plant City.
Emergency crews from the Lakeland Police Department, Polk County Fire Rescue, and the Lakeland Fire Department arrived at the scene and administered lifesaving aid. Both drivers were taken to Lakeland Regional Health for medical treatment. Despite doctors’ efforts, Lockhart later died at the hospital and was pronounced deceased.
Authorities reported that Duncan sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. Members of the Lakeland Police Department Traffic Homicide Unit assumed control of the investigation, which required West Pipkin Road to be closed for approximately four hours while evidence was collected and the scene documented.
