Fatal Rocky River, Ohio car crash death of Katrina R. Smith – Obituary

Katrina R. Smith, 50, of Kent, Ohio, was found deceased after a vehicle was discovered partially submerged in the Rocky River. Katrina R. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency crews responded to the incident.

Rocky River police were called to the area around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 4 after receiving a report of a vehicle in the river and a person in the water. Officers arrived at the east channel of the river near the Cleveland Yachting Club on Yacht Club Drive, where they located an SUV and an unresponsive woman near the southern end of a small island.

First responders confirmed there were no signs of life, and the Rocky River Fire Department officially pronounced the woman dead at the location. Initial information suggested the victim was from Brimfield Township, but the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner later confirmed her identity as Katrina R. Smith of Kent.

At this time, the medical examiner has not determined the official cause or manner of death. Authorities stated that further examination and investigation are required.

The Rocky River Police Department, along with the Westshore Enforcement Bureau Accident Investigation Unit, is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and how the vehicle ended up in the river.
