Fatal Peoria apartment fire deaths of Gene John Kaluza and Joanne Gail Kaluza – Obituary

An elderly couple tragically lost their lives in a fire that broke out at their apartment in Peoria on Monday night. Firefighters from the Peoria Fire-Medical Department, Sun City Fire Department, Glendale Fire Department, and El Mirage Fire Department responded to the blaze at the Olive Ridge Senior Living community located near 103rd and Olive avenues around 7:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, authorities were met with heavy flames coming from the couple’s apartment, following reports from witnesses who had heard a loud explosion. Emergency responders found Gene John Kaluza, 82, who was pulled from the apartment and given life-saving measures, but he was declared dead at the scene. His wife, Joanne Gail Kaluza, 79, was found inside the apartment and was also pronounced dead.

The fire was brought under control, and an investigation into the cause of the blaze is being conducted by the Peoria Police Department. At this time, no further details have been released.
