Fatal Darke County, Ohio cargo van crash death of Joshua Armstrong – Obituary

Joshua Armstrong, 19, of Greenville, Ohio, was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on State Route 49 in Darke County, authorities confirmed. The crash also claimed the life of 18-year-old Carl Schlechty, also of Greenville, and a Spirit EMS driver, Chris Bemis.

According to Darke County Sheriff Mark Whittaker, a cargo van carrying snow-removal equipment crossed the center line while traveling northbound and collided head-on with a Spirit EMS transport van. Following the initial impact, the van struck another vehicle, causing both the van and the car to catch fire.

Armstrong and Schlechty were found deceased inside the cargo van. Officials have not confirmed which of the two was driving at the time of the crash. Reports indicate that one of the men was a student at Miami Valley Career Technology Center.

Emergency responders and investigators continue to examine the circumstances that led to the collision.
