Nicholas Palomo, 36, died after being shot during a confrontation in Bradenton on New Year’s Day, authorities reported. The incident began when Palomo attempted to abduct a woman walking her dog near 18th Place East.
The woman escaped by running to her home and alerted her husband, who then confronted Palomo outside. According to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, Palomo acted in a threatening manner, prompting the husband to fire a single shot, striking Palomo in the chest. Deputies responded at 12:27 a.m., but Palomo was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that Palomo did not know the couple, labeling the encounter as a random incident. An autopsy confirmed a single gunshot wound as the cause of death, and toxicology testing is underway. The State Attorney’s Office classified the shooting as self-defense.
