Fatal Reliance, South Dakota Interstate 90 crash death of Reed Glenholden Harter – Obituary
Reed Glenholden Harter, 28, of Colome, South Dakota, was killed Friday afternoon in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 90, authorities confirmed. The crash also claimed the life of a passenger riding in his vehicle, Chandler Cole Bakley, 27, of Martin.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred around 3:44 p.m., roughly five miles west of Reliance. Preliminary information indicates that a westbound 2025 Kenworth driven by 50-year-old Drew Allen Kellison of Locust Grove, Virginia, had slowed due to a possible collision ahead. Harter, driving a 2008 Mercury Sable, struck the rear of the semi, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving a 2025 Ford F-150, a 2013 Ford F-150, and a 2010 GMC Yukon.
Harter and Bakley were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers in the Mercury Sable, 27-year-old Wyatt Philip Kayser from Alexandria and 26-year-old Cameron Rick Quigley from Hartford, sustained serious injuries but were not in life-threatening condition.
In the 2025 Ford F-150, 71-year-old driver Curtis W. Roberts and passengers 72-year-old Kathy Roberts and 46-year-old Megan Roberts suffered serious injuries, while a fourth passenger, 19-year-old Addison Roberts, was unharmed. The 2013 Ford F-150’s occupants, 59-year-old Wade James Ness and 54-year-old Jennifer Rebecca Ness, were seriously injured, while the 2010 GMC Yukon driver, 52-year-old Catana Ehlers, sustained minor injuries. The Kenworth driver, Drew Kellison, was uninjured.
Authorities noted that whiteout conditions contributed to the collision. The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
