Fatal Jackson Township, Pennsylvania shooting death of John McDowell – Obituary
Authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed by Pennsylvania State Police troopers in Lebanon County as 47-year-old John McDowell. McDowell was pronounced dead at the scene around 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, January 28.
According to officials, troopers arrived at a residence on Gable Drive in Jackson Township around 6:00 a.m. to serve a search warrant connected to an investigation into alleged possession of child sexual abuse material. Upon entering the home, McDowell allegedly confronted officers in a manner that prompted them to discharge their firearms.
No law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident. Troopers involved have been placed on administrative duty as per standard policy while the Pennsylvania State Police and the Office of Attorney General conduct a joint investigation.
The Lebanon County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy, and the final cause and manner of death will be determined once the autopsy and police reports are completed. Officials have stated that the situation is contained and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
